Our Vision
Community Before Self
Our Mission
The Ray of Light Foundation exists to inspire, educate, and bring joy to others by empowering young people to use their talents in service of the community. We build meaningful partnerships, mobilize volunteers, and engage the generosity of donors to support families in need—especially those affected by childhood cancer.

Through initiatives like the Shine Your Light Youth Vocal Competition, community theater collaborations, and creative outreach events, the Ray of Light Foundation continues Raymond’s mission: to shine a light on others, to serve with joy, and to place community before self.

Who We Are
The Ray of Light Foundation is a 501(c)(3) non-profit providing benevolent assistance to those in need in Middle Tennessee. Our work is grounded in the legacy of Raymond M. Cruz, who, even during his own battle with Ewing-like Sarcoma, dedicated his time and talent to helping others. Raymond believed in the power of the arts to heal, connect, and uplift. Before his passing in 2019, he dreamed of teaching young people how to use their gifts—not just for applause, but to make a difference.
The non-profit was set up by Raymond Cruz Sr. and Blandina Vergara Cruz in honor of their son Raymond's legacy after his passing from cancer in 2019. Throughout his three year battle with Ewing-like Sarcoma, Raymond's focus was always on helping others. The Ray of Light Foundation will continue Raymond's legacy of warmth and generosity through initiatives like our Shine Your Light Youth Vocal Competition, Snack Drives, Toy Drives, and more.
